In 2004, in order to provide a high capacity, fast and efficient
transportation; and also aiming to reduce mess of traffic and air pollution; the Eskisehir
light rail transit system, the first transportation line in Turkey to use 100 per cent
low-floor Bombardier FLEXITY Outlook trams,

opened to passenger service. The complete network is designed to carry passengers at a top speed of 50 km/h in mixed
traffic although they are capable of reaching speeds up to 70 km/h. The project was completed
in less than two years and was awarded by UITP (International Association of Public Transport)
in 2004 in recognition of its actions in favor of Light Rail.
